Vulvar skin (skin surrounding the vagina) is more sensitive because it’s thinner than skin on other parts of the body. It’s also hormone-responsive tissue becoming more sensitive during different stages, such as periods and during pregnancy and menopause. Just like the face, it can experience skin conditions like irritation, dryness, thinning and normal aging.

pH stands for “potential of hydrogen” and the pH level is the measure of acidity or alkalinity of water-soluble products. A pH value is a number from 1 – 14, with 7 as the neutral point. Values below 7 are more acidic. The skin on our faces has an average pH of 5.5 while intimate skin (vulvovaginal) is below a 4.5. Using a cleanser down there with a higher pH can disturb the balance of good bacteria that protect our lady parts from irritation potential.
